I don’t think I’ve properly introduced myself. Since we are experimenting with new content for Good People, why not start with myself. :)

Nelson Ng is the Community Builder of Good Karma Club, where he writes about impact ecosystem and insights in SEA. He works with a Family Office on impact investing in SEA. He also angel invests in impact startups in SEA.

Prior to this, Nelson was the Chief of Staff at a YC-backed FoodTech company and launched ProjectEd, a student-run scholarship fund which provided >50 scholarships and impacted >6,000 students through uni-pathway workshops.

👋🏼  How would you explain your job to your grandma?

I work with good people who makes the world a better place by making good intros, enabling ecosystem, and investing capital.

Building Good Karma, one day at a time.

🧐  What's something about you or your job that would surprise us?

I co-founded a student-run scholarship fund which provided >50 scholarships and impact >6,000 students through uni-pathway workshops.

It all started with the intention to give away a portion of my scholarship allowance. This initiative gave me a ton of life exposure - from meeting amazing folks to speaking on a TEDx. It changed my life.

For scholars, by scholars.

🔍  What's an impact startup / investing trend you're watching?

Definitely the growing popularity of impact-first loans / debt financing.

I’ve been a huge proponent of exploring different funding routes (other than VCs) for impact startups / social enterprises.

💡 What's one book / podcast / movie that inspired you the most?

3 Idiots. I’ve watched it for 14 times (yes, I tracked it!)

It’s my favourite movie which inspired me to follow my heart, pursue my true intentions, and be surrounded by genuine people. It actually led me to study aerospace engineering in college and moved into impact world right after college.

All is well.

🎯  What’s one habit / new skill you are working on recently?

Getting back on shape. Trying very hard to exercise regularly and pick up basketball again.

  1. Founders’ Well-being → listen to your struggles and celebrate your success

  2. Fundraising → discuss fundraising strategy and make intros to right investors
