For me, the biggest win in 2024 is to start writing about impact with Good Karma Club, now counting at 400+ incredible followers (yes, you, you and you!!)

This week, we’ve some GOOD stuff on:

• ♻️ Rekosistem’s journey in turning trash into treasure

💡 GOOD Insights

Indonesia is the world’s 2nd biggest ocean polluter behind China with ~3.2 million tons of plastic waste mismanaged every year. 😱

Two main reasons.

☝️Lack of infrastructure to process waste

✌️People don’t sort out their waste and even resort to burning their trash in rural areas where waste pickers don’t reach their house 😟

Two college grads Ernest and Joshua decided to tackle this problem by founding Rekosistem in 2021!

The idea is simple: Incentivise waste sorting and centralize waste management.

People get money when they put their sorted waste in Rekosistem drop-points, and some selected areas even have free pickup once a week!

The company invested its funding to build waste management centers, logistics and upskilling to kickstart a more formal and technical ecosystem of waste management in Indonesia to result in speedier and cost-effective ways of manage waste.

Since founding, the startup has achieved some impressive tractions:

• processed ~35k tonnes of waste

• prevented ~30k tonnes of carbon emissions

• converted waste into ~6k of biofuel
